I have a small chair made of a plastic shell on a steel frame. The text on the shell: World Patent-PLAXICO-made in France. The steel legs are scaped in a conic form on brass nobs. On the internet i only found one other small picture of the chair, but nothing more.
Who knows more about Plaxico or the chair, who made it, in what year its produced?
Meanwhile..
Well, I hate it to find incorrect information in forums like this. So: After a few more days of research into original sources from the 1960s I hate to say, not all I wrote above seems to be entirely correct. In particular the usual Sam Avedon attribution appears a bit questionable meanwhile, although he and his company Alladin Plastics were certainly involved. Will all be sorted out however, once my book and thesis has been published .. Sry & cheers, Jens
Some background
Thanks for posting this - wasn´t aware of the Plaxico branding of the model!
The chair is a one of the very first polypropylene seat shells ever made. It was designed by Sam Avedon at Alladin Plastics of Gardena, CA, USA and made for Avisun. In the US the chair - it came with different bases and shells - was marketed as "Form-Fit Chair" and later "Imperial". Interestingly, it was made in France as well at about the same time. Early models are branded as "Alladin" and I assume Plaxico acquired the mold only later and distributed the chairs under their brand name.
I have much more in-depth information about the US-side of the story but would be more than happy to learn anything about the chair´s French background. So if anyone knows anything - please add to the thread!
Best from Berlin, Jens
