Scottish painter and printmaker Horne Shepherd (1909-1993) is noted in particular for his figure subjects, often nudes, and his still lifes. He was born in Dundee and he studied at Dundee School of Art and then at the Glasgow School of Art in the late 1920s. He came to London in the mid 1930s, and later exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists, New English Art Club, London Group, Leicester Galleries, Redfern Gallery, Royal Scottish Academy and Society of Scottish Artists, etc. He moved to West Sussex later in life. An exhibition to mark the centenary of his birth was held in Dundee in October 2009.
The main work shown is an original linocut of a motorcyclist, signed in pencil by the artist and titled 'Speed'. The linocut is unframed and is in good condition, save for some heavy creasing to the margins (away from the image). We think it likely that the work dates to the 1970s.
We are also showing here three other unframed original works by Horne Shepherd, all of which are signed. Full details and further images will be sent gladly on request...
