Description: Erik Smith (1914-1973) was a printmaker and painter who studied at the Royal College of Art either side of the Second War. He exhibited on many occasions at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of Watercolour Painters, New English Art Club etc, and is represented in the V&A, Ashmolean Museum, and the South London Art Gallery.
This unframed print is an original etching and aquatint, measuring about 9.8 x 12.8 inches image size. It is pencil signed and it is dated (we think for 1957). The work is not titled but it may well be 'Spanish Harbour', an example of which was shown at the RA in 1957. The print has been trimmed to three of the margins, and has some tape residue to the lower edge and some very light foxing throughout. Nevertheless it is a scarce and attractive image by a very good printmaker...
