This early Walter Bosse piece measures 6"/151mm wide X 1 1/4"/30mm tall. The brown metallic glaze appears to be an early experimental glaze that proceeded similar glazes by the likes of Beatrice Wood, the Natzlers and Lucy Rie by decades. The piece is simply impressed "BOSSE AUSTRIA" on the underside of the foot. I suspect that due to the glaze and Bauhaus influence of the design that this may have come from Bosses own ceramic studio (1919-1937) although there are pieces by Goldscheider that also used this mark. There are some condition issues that I need to address; there is a 1/4" X 1/2"/ 6mm X 6mm area of glaze flecked off on the underside---there is a shallow 1/4" x 1/8"/6mm X 2mm chip to the edge as well as numerous fleabite chips to the glaze which are mostly confined to 1/3 or the dish's edge.
