During the years following the Second World War the company moved away from its more conservative fabric designs and, with the appointment of John Murray as Director of Furnishing Fabrics, David Whitehead Ltd did for British textiles what Hille had done for furniture design in the same period. Well-known designers and artists who worked with the company included Marian Mahler, William Scott, Henry Moore and John Piper.
