Organic Design in Home Furnishings~1941 NY MOMA
This is the original catalog of the winners of the 1940 competition sponsored by the New York Museum of Modern Art that brought fame to Eero Saarinen and Charles Eames and introduced scores of Americans to the aesthetics of the Mid Century Modern Design movement. The text was written by Eliot F. Noyes with the iconic cover illustration by E. McKnight Kauffer. The catalog has its original dust cover which has a tear to the top left and right front corners of the cover, the original owners name written on the palm of the hand, a tear along the bottom left edge on the back and general wear and foxing to the edges. The catalog itself is in good condition with uniform toning to the paper and a 1/2" X 1 3/8" stain to the bottom right corner of the first page. The piece is generously illustrated with a forward showing the development of Modern furniture with works by Thonet, Breuer, Le Corbusier and Aalto. A truly important historic milestone in the development of Mid-20th Century Design
