Rafael Alvarez Ortega (born 1927, Cordoba) is a well known Spanish painter especially noted for his paintings and drawings of portraits and figure subjects. He settled in Madrid in 1949 and achieved outstanding recognition as an art student at an early age, going on to exhibit widely throughout Spain, other areas of Europe and the United States. In 1963 and 1965 he had one man shows at The Trafford Gallery in London, W1. For a detailed record of his life and artistic achievements there is a website dedicated to him which is well worth visiting:

The drawing is in good condition for its age as is the frame save for some minor losses and abrasions over time, and this drawing is priced at £225.
The second work shown is another signed pen and ink drawing of two boys on a beach, which measures 26.7 x 18.7 inches image size. It has the same provenance as the other drawing and has clearly been in the same ownership throughout. It is also in good condition and was framed by Patrickson's. The price of this work is £175...
